Jobs for Life

What is Jobs for Life?

Jobs for Life is a nationally used job preparedness course. Individuals will learn biblical principles about the purpose of work. That there is dignity in work. That work is how we support ourselves, our families, and our community. Individuals will participate in career assessments, receive guidance in resume writing, participate in mock interviews, and learn how to talk about difficult past life experiences with potential employers.

*The Class is free, but participants must commit to attending classes and doing all coursework.

Each student is paired with a “champion” or mentor who will walk through the class material with them. Champions will also encourage students after graduation during and after the job application process.

The course will be an hour and a half in the classroom followed by an hour and a half in the wood shop. We’ll apply the things we learned in the class to roles in a workplace environment. We’ll meet on Mondays from 6-9 pm.

Shop Portion

With manufacturing and the trades being two of the three largest fields of employment in Shelby Co., we’ll use a similar environment to prepare individuals for future employment.

Students will create their own cutting board using a jointer, planer, table saw, router table, and drum sander. Once students finish their own boards they will manufacture boards and other home goods that we will sell to help fund Jobs for Life in Shelby County.
