This class is for the beginning woodworker or anyone who wants to refresh their skills! You'll learn techniques for the safe and efficient use of the jointer, planer, table saw, and router table. By class end, you will have created a beautiful cutting board for your home or to give as a gift. This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of woodworking.
* Participants must be 16 or older to attend alone. Anyone 10 and above must be accompanied by an adult.
Friday night will cover the basics of milling rough lumber into square smooth stock. Students will learn how to use a jointer to make a board flat, a planer to make a board an even thickness and a table saw to rip stock into strips.
Students will then organize their strips into a design and glue their board together.
Saturday morning will be all about making your board pretty. We’ll scrape glue residue, plane flat, and drum sand smooth. We’ll use the table saw again to square up the ends. Students will have the option to use a router to add an edge profile to their board. We’ll end with finish sanding and applying some board butter, our cutting board finish.
